Woodworking Shop Dust Extraction

Ducting Express were contacted by a filter supplier to work alongside them on a project in which they would supply the filter unit for a CNC machine wood dust extraction system.

Woodworking Shop Dust Extraction

Following the initial enquiry our dust & waste control engineer arranged to visit site to meet with the customer to discuss their requirements and take any measurements needed to quote for the dust extraction ducting.

Working closely with the customer and filter supplier to design the CNC extraction system, we then proposed to supply and fit a new wood waste extraction system that would extract from 2 CNC machines and a further table saw.

The new system would consist of a 4 bag 7.5 Kw extraction unit that was to be installed externally. To ensure weather proofing, the dust extraction unit was designed to be metal clad.

From the extraction unit correct sized clipped ductwork, manufactured from galvanised steel: DX51D with Z275 coating, would connect to 2 CNC machines and to a table saw within the factory.

Nordfab Quick-Fit ducting is quick and simple to put together or take apart allowing for easy relocation when machines are moved or changed, or for replacement of part of the duct work in the system.

The duct layout is designed to give efficient airflow throughout the system, ensuring that the emissions of hazardous substances at the extraction points are controlled to below the occupation exposure limits. All ducting would be secured using heavy duty brackets and fixings.

A vacuum extraction point will be fitted into the ductwork between the 2 CNC machines in order to maintain good housekeeping around them.

The proposed system was installed by our skilled installation engineers over a two-day period.

On completion of installation an LEV COSHH examination was undertaken by our experienced commissioning engineer in order to comply with legal obligations and to provide documentation for the customers health and safety records.

Dust Extraction System Move

After the initial installation the customer contacted Ducting Express to quote for moving the previously installed system to a new site.

The existing CNC extraction system was to be stripped out and moved to a newly acquired building opposite the customers’ existing factory. A small amount of additional clipped dust extraction ducting would be required to connect to the newly positioned CNC machines.

The relocation required shutdown of the original system during fitting which would be carried out by two installation engineers to reduce shutdown time.

To comply with Health & Safety guidelines another LEV test was carried out on the newly positioned CNC dust extraction system to ensure that the system was extracting as required.
