Personal Development at Ducting Express: Congratulations to Enya for completing her P601

Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) Testing is an important part of our work here at Ducting Express. Current Health and Safety and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations require anyone carrying out LEV testing to be competent. Passing P601 is an important step in demonstrating competence to test LEV systems.

Well Done to Ducting Express’ Enya who is now qualified to carry out LEV testing!
Enya has spent years within the engineering industry learning about dust and fume extraction systems. Over this period of time, she has greatly developed her knowledge within this industry, beginning her journey within the sales department and now having extensive knowledge on LEV systems, which has benefited her when sitting exams. By passing the P601 course Enya has gained both theoretical and practical skills allowing her to undertake LEV testing and understand the risks and methods of prevention of harmful airborne contaminants like dust, fumes, and gasses within the workplace.
Enya has also passed her W201 – Basic principles of occupational hygiene. This course teaches how valuable occupational hygiene is and to recognise hazards within a workplace. Having worked with Ducting Express throughout covid she has seen first-hand how important educating ourselves on health and hygiene has been. The W201 was designed to supply learners with the comprehension to manage and advise on workplace health issues and provide a functional understanding of occupational hygiene.

Knowledge Gained from the P601:

Firstly, you learn an understanding of the design, role, and main principles of LEV systems to then determine whether the LEV system can control identified hazards. Identifying this helps us learn whether the system is working to optimum performance and functioning effectively. Another important skill from completing the P601 is the ability to find the fundamental principles of good control practice when dealing with hazardous airborne contaminants. Knowing how to identify and use the appropriate equipment when testing LEV systems is crucial in ensuring reliable results. Mathematical skills are also important when it comes to passing the P601, mathematics is used when determining airflow and velocities and is needed to deliver accurate results. All of this knowledge helps with the testing process. Following on from the LEV test the ability to provide solutions to any flaws within the LEV system and knowledge to write up reports and record all the test results in a suitable format according to regulations.
Safety in the workplace is very important to protect both the employers and employees. Having your site tested is an essential step in keeping everybody safe and healthy with systems running smoothly. It is important to book regular LEV system tests to guarantee the effectiveness of the systems performance levels and adequate control of exposure.

Benefits of Regular LEV Testing:

Regular testing helps to regulate safety and control hazards by identifying levels of efficiency. LEV systems can degrade over time due to natural deterioration from the collection of debris or corrode over time if outdoors. By checking and identifying deterioration early it can help prevent larger costs in the future when repairs or replacements are needed. Legally systems must be compliant with certain regulations like providing appropriate protection from harmful substances, proof of regular testing is essential to avoid legal implications and fines. Another benefit to preventing the risk of harmful contaminants is protecting workers from exposure and avoiding serious health problems. Regular testing can give workers peace of mind in regard to their personal health and safety.
